Frank G. Bendl, age 86, a resident of Northville, died Friday, September 1, 2107, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville following a long illness. He was born in Amsterdam, NY, on September 15, 1930, the son of the late John and Sophia Jackson Bendl. Frank was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1949.
He was employed by the telephone company as a lineman, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department as a motorcycle police officer and lastly was the owner and operator in Bendl’s Brass Rail in Northville, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Fish House Masonic Lodge of Northville, the Concordia Club, Fulton County Sheriff’s Association, the Gloversville Moose Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his companion, Jean Frederick of Wells; his close friends, Linda and Skip Thompson of Mayfield; his grandson, Christopher Thompson of Maryland; one sister-in-law, Shirley Bendl of Gloversville. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Charles and Jack.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15, 2017, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Northville at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078. Following the burial, everyone is invited to a reception at St. Francis Church of Northville (downstairs of the church). Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Northville Funeral Home.
