Donald James Canary, age 96, of Gloversville, passed unexpectedly on Friday, November 10, 2017, at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
He was born on May 2, 1921, to the late Clayton and Estella M. Miller Canary.
Donald was a class of 1939 graduate of Broadalbin High School and worked as a dairy farmer all of his life. Mr. Canary was of the Baptist faith, a founding member of the Adirondack Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughter, Evelyn Sheridan (Michael); son, John Canary (Mary Carol); son, Charles Canary (Karen); daughter, Susan Adamkowski (Joseph); foster son, Al Spencer Hallett; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Donald is also survived by brother, Kenneth Canary of Gloversville; and sister Marilyn Ottendorf of Kokomo, Indiana.
Mr. Canary was predeceased by his wife, Audrey Mae Reed Canary, who passed on May 9, 2011; son, David Canary; brother, Warren A. Canary; and three sisters, Shirley Rose, Eileen Minkler and Arlene MacVean.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Adirondack Baptist Church, 1431 State Highway 29, Gloversville, with a one hour visitation period prior.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Adirondack Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Broadalbin-Mayfield Cemetery following the funeral service.
