Donald W. Rogers

Donald W. Rogers passed away Friday, September 8, 2017, from heart complications at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born February 13,1931, in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. Don graduated from Mansfield State College in Pennsylvania and pursued a career in teaching. He married Evelyn Harvey July 1954, and together they had four children. The family moved to Johnstown in 1964 when Don accepted a position as biology teacher and advisor at the brand new FMCC, then located on Perry Street in Johnstown. His enthusiasm for education and the sciences were well known and respected throughout his 32 year tenure at FMCC.

In 1972, the family purchased what is now known as Rogers’ Family Orchard. Don continued to teach and work the orchard until his retirement in 1998. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, in 1982. Their children survive, Craig (Carolyn) of Eldorado Hills, CA, Todd (Sam) of Johnstown, NY, Pamela (MaryAnn) of Johnstown, NY, and Eric (Jani) of San Francisco, CA. Surviving grandchildren are Mitchell Rogers of Fonda, NY, Elizabeth Rogers of Washington state;and great-grandchild, Aubrey Rogers of Washington state.

Don was remarried to Deborah (Ambrosino) of Gloversville in 1992 and they continued their life in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He and Debbie enjoyed the climate and time with their family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Deborah and their children, Sarah Abutaha of Las Cruces NM; Dennis Ostrander of Gloversville, NY; and several grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours.
