John “Chuck” Lander Jr., 85, of Meco, passed away on January 31, 2018, at Mountain Valley Hospice surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
He was born in Gloversville, NY to John Lander Sr. and Elfrieda Lander (Ritcher) on June 13, 1932. He graduated from Gloversville High School. John married Loretta Siebach on July 21, 1958, in Schenectady, NY. John was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army from September 1952-‘54. John was employed by General Telephone Company from 1956 until his retirement in 1992.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. He also enjoyed many great times camping with his family in the Adirondacks. After retirement, John and Loretta frequently traveled the east coast to attend NASCAR races.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loretta; sisters, Marie Clark and Ruth Stock; and brother, Richard Lander. John is survived by his children, Jackie Noone (Chuck) of Glens Falls, Jill Hennessey (Tom) of Camp Hill, PA, Cynthia Miller (Mike) of Johnstown, John K. Lander (Kelly) of Mayfield, Lisa Getman (Mike) of Gloversville, Pamela Madej (Tom) of Hagaman, and Melissa Sweeney (Tom) of Mayfield; his brothers, Leon Lander and William Lander; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be a private visitation for his family. Memorial contributions will be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY.
