Michael J. Niemczyk, 73, of Stella Lane, Amsterdam, NY, died suddenly on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at his home. Born on August 2, 1944, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Michael M. and Dorothy Cox Niemczyk.

A lifelong area resident, Mike graduated from high school and served proudly with the United States Navy from 1962-1966. He also attended FMCC and Albany Business School. Michael worked for Niagara Mohawk as a Gas Mechanic and Foreman until his retirement.

Mike will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and his love of family. He enjoyed going to camp at Stoner Lake and vacationing at the beach. He also was an avid fan of the Amsterdam Mohawks and looked forward to baseball season each year. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his furry “children” especially Willow.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret “Maggie” Gray Niemczyk; two daughters, Lori Tambasco and her husband Christopher and Betsy Devillier and her wife Rebecca; four grandchildren, Abigail, Phillip, Spencer and Megan; nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan M. Fowler on October 30, 2017.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY, with the Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche M.S. as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
