John F. Ponticello, age 90, of Saratoga Blvd., Gloversville, NY, passed away peacefully Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. Born in Gloversville on June 6, 1927, he was the son of the late Sossio and Carmella Cirillo Ponticello. He was a 1945 graduate of Gloversville High School and later received his associate’s degree.

He was a superintendent employed by JBF Leather Industry of Gloversville, retiring in 1990. He was a Navy World War II veteran, serving from 1945 to 1948. John and his wife relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1992 returning back to the area in 2008. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Elks Club, Pine Brook and various leather organizations.

His loving family includes one son, Michael A. Ponticello of Gloversville; and two adored grandchildren, Anthony M. and Michaela E. Ponticello of Gloversville. They were his pride and joy. His later years were very happy because of them. He loved following all of their student/athlete activities. They were his inspiration. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Ponticello. They were married October 27, 1951, and she passed away December 9, 2014. He was also predeceased by five siblings. His love of family and friends are the special qualities that he leaves as his legacy.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at the John W. Finocan Inc, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of the Church of the Holy Spirit, officiating.
