Mrs. Sally E. Bates, of Beech Street, town of Mayfield, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, following a brief illness with her family by her side. Born in Gloversville, NY she was the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn Brown.
A lifelong area resident Sally grew up in Fulton County and resided in Mayfield. On May 27, 1984, she was united in marriage to Michael Bates. Together they raised a family and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her brother, Floyd “Sonny” Ropeter.
Survivors include her husband, Mike; her children, Evelyn (Mel) Dopp and Francis (Lisa) Oliver; two stepsons, Scott (Darci) Bates and Michael (Cindy) Bates; eight siblings, Malvina Ward, Orletta (John) LaVada, Sharon Fosmire, Linda (Joe) Sweet, Renee Manzer, Valerie (Butch) Van Avery, Velice (Lew) Decker, Michael (Pam) Palmer; 12 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Bonnie Orth presiding. Calling hours will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will take place at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
