Gary E. Meher Sr. of Gloversville, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 67 years old.

Born on August 18, 1950, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Delbert Meher and Arlene Frye Dutcher.

Mr. Meher was proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. Upon returning home to the Gloversville area, he married his sweetheart Dawn Brewer Meher on December 13, 1969. They have been married for almost 50 years.

Gary was active in the community and supportive of the various local military organizations throughout the years. He served as the Commander of the American Legion Post 137 in addition to Commander over the years he served as First Vice President and Bar Manager. Gary was also a member of the Gloversville VFW and the Bleecker Fish and Game Club. In his leisure he enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing. But most of all he loved being with his children and grandchildren; they brought him great enjoyment and he will be missed dearly by them.

He was predeceased by his mother, Arlene Dutcher; brothers, Delbert (Babe) and Paul Meher; stepfather, Robert Dutcher; and sister in-law, Patricia Wytrawl.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn Meher of Gloversville; son, Gary Meher (Jennie) of Gloversville, NY; daughter, Tanya Warren (Dan) of Saratoga Springs, NY; brother, Pete Meher (Jeanie); sisters, Elaine Matthews (Daniel), Marlene Flynn (Tom), Cheryl Wolfe (Ken); grandchildren, Celia and Gary Meher; and Hayden and Chase Warren, sisters in-law, Candy Meher and Ethel Meher, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Halgas Funeral Home, 111 County Route 106, Johnstown, NY 12095.

Burial will be on Friday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Saratoga, NY.

Donations can be made in his memory to the American Legion Post 137, 200 North Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
