Volgert A. “Jack” Rote III

Volgert A. “Jack” Rote III, 54, of Perth, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at home with his wife, daughters, family, and friends at his side.

He was born in Gloversville on December 8, 1963, a son of the late Volgert and Beverley Edick Rote and attended school in Perth.

Jack enjoyed working in local tanning mills until finding his true calling as an auto mechanic. He worked alongside his father and brothers at Rote’s Service Station, formerly in Vail Mills.

Jack enjoyed woodworking, camping, canoeing, traveling, and cooking but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his overall passion for life.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Neal A. Rote.

Jack met his best friend, Jean M. Hoyt in 1981, and married her on August 27, 1988. Together they became Jack and Jean, inseparable and so in love. They raised their four daughters, Rebecca (Luther) Goodrich of Northville, Cindy Raymond of Johnstown, Jackie (Darren) Young of Broadalbin, and Megan Rote (Shane) of Perth. Jack felt very blessed to be called “Grampa” by his eight granddaughters, three grandsons, and a great-grandson. In addition, he has two brothers, David (Bonnie) Rote and Michael Rote, all of Broadalbin; a loving canine companion, Peanut; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Jack’s family extends their deepest thanks to his caregivers, Caila and Jen, for their exceptional tender touch; and a special thank you to Dr. Emily Etzkorn and her staff.
