Charles Fred “Chuck” Landsberg, Jr., 74, of Johnstown NY passed on May 12, 2018 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, N.Y. He was of the Christian faith and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Born in Amsterdam, NY, to the late Charles F. Landsberg Sr. and Edna May Emhke Landsberg, he moved to Keck Center as a teenager and went on to graduate from Johnstown High School in 1961. After graduating Chuck entered the U.S. Navy where he proudly served two years. Upon his discharge, he worked for Beech-Nut, then spent 40 plus years at General Electric Corp. in Schenectady starting in the foundry. After the foundry closed, he went on to work in general assembly in the Steam Turbine Division retiring in 2004.
Chuck was an avid ‘NASCAR Fan’ who loved the outdoors, camping, boating and in his younger years, he was an avid hunter. He was also a fan of music, with one of his favorite bands being “Three Dog Night” and other similar artists. He showed his love for music managing several bands, including “Pecks Bad Boys” playing in venues such as Lake Aire, Shermans, and other locations in Caroga Lake and throughout our area. Chuck was a longtime coach for The Johnstown Little League. Chuck held a special ‘place in his heart’ for animals and leaves behind his beloved cat ‘Minnie Mouse’, a cat he himself rescued, along with six other cats. He sputtered but enjoyed feeding many stray animals, including a possum and a few skunks. His love for all humans, animals, and people were genuine. Chuck especially enjoyed and cherished his summer vacations to Maine. He had just returned from his annual family trip to Virginia.
Chuck leaves behind his heart-broken wife, Barbara Crispin Landsberg, who he shared 37 wonderful years with, 34 of them as husband and wife. He also leaves behind his beloved step-daughter, Cindy Briggs Kimball (Bill), of Providence, N.Y., who he considered his daughter and best friend. Also leaving behind a son, Charles R. Landsberg (Trudy) of Cynthiana, Kentucky, his daughter, Cindy Sue Passman (Jeff); of W. Palm Beach, Florida, as well as his grandchildren, Amanda Bernaski (Chris), Nicole Passman, Brianna Passman, Julia Landsberg, Charles R. Landsberg, Amber Bleau, (P.J.), Hailey Howe (Darian), Abby Kimball, David Kimball; adored great-grandchildren Annabelle, Emma, Natalie, Nick and their “expected” brother, Darian and Daphnee.
At Chuck’s request, there are to be no formal funeral services. A cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady, N.Y. with a burial to take place in the Johnstown Cemetery at the family’s convenience. It was Chuck’s wish that donations be made to our local ambulance service; J.A.V.A.C., 231 N. Perry St., Johnstown, NY 12095, an organization of which he was very proud, or your local animal shelter.
