Richard J. Roberts, age 82, of Gloversville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 17. He was a lifelong resident of Gloversville.

Richard was born August 21, 1935, in Amsterdam, NY, the son of Raymond Roberts and Mary Hayes.

He was a graduate of Rochester School for the Deaf and was employed by The Leader-Herald for 30 years as a linotype operator, retiring in 1995.

Richard was a great sports enthusiast who loved skiing, watching car racing and all types of sports.

He was an avid skier and had skied in the Alps, the Adirondacks, and many other resort areas where he started at a young age. He loved traveling with family and friends and was very fond of the outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Robert L. Throop.

He is survived by his sister, Maureen R. Throop of New City, NY; nieces, Lori Throop, Lisa (Jeff) Levy; and a nephew, David (Wendy) Throop of Marietta, Ga. He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.

Richard’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 23, at the Finocan Funeral Home at 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, NY. The funeral service will begin at noon and the family will be available to receive condolences at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
