Kenneth B. Van Alstine Sr., age 89, of Johnstown, died Sunday, January 27, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam.
He was born March 15, 1929, in Gloversville, the son of Kenneth R. and Delilah Waller Van Alstine. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School and Paul Smith College with a degree in forestry. He served in the U.S. Army Rangers. He owned and operated Van Alstine’s Nursery and Tree Farm for many years and currently owned and operated Homestead Organics, a local composting company.
Kenneth was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing golf, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Kenneth B. Van Alstine Jr. (Susan), Valerie E. Kevlin (Thomas), Richard A. Van Alstine (Kathy) and Judith Antonucci (John); a sister, Audrey Van Alstine; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Beverly E. Johnson Van Alstine.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, January 31, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at noon with the Rev. David E. Smith officiating.
Interment will take place in the spring at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
