Raymond “Sheriff” Burch, age 89, was born February 26, 1930. He passed away peacefully following a short illness and June 3, 2019. He was educated at Rome State School. As a young man he lived in many different cities in New York state.

In 1978, Ray moved to Gloversville, New York and became a part of the Lexington family. Most recently he resided in Dolgeville, New York and attended Oppenheim Day Hab.

Ray was lovingly known as “Sheriff” and donned a badge, cowboy boots and cowboy hat. He was a very congenial, gentle man who was loved by all. He loved western movies and John Wayne was his hero. He enjoyed everything Western and would be seen at local rodeos in fairs where everyone knew him as Sheriff.

Hee Haw was his favorite show. He found a lot of pleasure in food and loved going out to eat. He was a true country gentleman and his favorite meals needed to include meat and potatoes. He enjoyed the company of his friends and made new friends easily. Birdwatching was a pasttime he also enjoyed.

Sheriff will be missed by all who knew him. Donations may be made in his memory to the Lexington Foundation, 495 N. Perry Street, Johnstown, NY 12095.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Gloversville Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Dolgeville Cemetery, Dolgeville, NY.
