Ira Danial Cromling Sr., 70, of Broadalbin, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
He was born in Latrobe, PA. on September 23, 1948, and was one of eight children born to the late Albert and Sylvia Kelly Cromling. His family moved to Broadalbin when Ira was a young boy and he had called it his home ever since.
Ira was a 1968 graduate of Broadalbin High School and married the love of his life, Sandra Dwyer, on June 29, 1968. They spent 50 wonderful years together until her passing on November 18, 2018. Over the years they raised five children and a couple dozen pugs.
Ira started working at the family sawmill, A. Cromling Pallet’s, at a very young age. He fed the saw, stacked lumber, and built pallets when needed. He was an extremely gifted carpenter with a sharp mind and a limitless imagination. Ira had a passion for woodworking and loved to hunt and fish any chance he got.
Ira was a very hard-working man. He loved his wife and children very much and did the best he could to provide for them. He was always honest and proud, even to a fault. Ira and Sandra believed in giving to others and helping anyone in need. They were extremely strong people that never complained and always made sure their children and grandchildren were taken care of. They instilled all these traits in their children; and for both of them, we are grateful.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ira was predeceased by his twin brother, Floyd; brother, Albert; sister-in-law, Elaine Cromling; sister, Shirley McClarren; and niece, Melanie Cromling.
His large family includes three sons, Ira (Kathy) Cromling Jr., Patrick (Trudy) Cromling, and Albert Cromling (Pam Strassberg); two daughters, Heidi (Jack) Hunt and Muriel (Don III) May; his grandchildren, Ira (Erin) Cromling III, Alysia (Shawn) Tooker, Zachary (Blair) Cromling, Joshua and Madison Cromling, Eliana, Cecelia, and Liam Cromling, Dannie and Albert Hunt, and Antonia, Evelyn, Loretta, and Donald IV May; his great-grandchildren, Hunter and Annie Cromling and Zachary Jr. and Adeline Cromling; two brothers, William Cromling Sr. and Robert “Bob” Cromling; and two sisters, Muriel Salvione and Ida “Molly” Brick.
Cremation will be performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. In accordance with his wishes there will be no services. The family would like to thank Ira’s special friends, who added so much to his life over the years; his brother, William; his sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Alan; his dear friends, Bruce Conley and Dee Ogden; and to the caring staff at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brennan Memorial Humane Society, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown, NY 12095.
