Ms. Betty Ann Johnson, 66, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2019, at St Mary’s Hospital, with her loving daughter by her side. Born on February 25, 1953, to Felix and Agnes (Plantz) Sargalis, she attended local schools and was a graduate of St. Casimir’s School. On September 25, 1971, she was united in marriage to Edward C. Green, also of Amsterdam.
Betty worked for Bojud Knitting Mills, and later at Adirondack Knitting Mills as a knitter and threader for 30 years. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam.
She enjoyed playing bingo at the Amsterdam Elks Lodge, and bowling with her sisters, Donna and Judy. Betty also loved to go hunting with her longtime companion, Norman “Skip” Phillips.
Her loving family includes her daughter, Hope (Kenneth A.) Green-Markes; her brothers, Victor Sargalis, Ronald Sargalis, Edward (Robin) Sargalis, and George Sargalis; her sisters, Judy Singleton and Donna Dufresne; her grandchildren, Virginia, Elizabeth, and Joseph Leonard; and her seven great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her faithful, loving companions: her cats, Sammy, Coco, and Candy.
Betty was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence; as well as her husband, Edward Green; and her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted on September 9, 2019, at 5 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
