Paul Andrew Reed passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on September 20, 2019. Paul was born on July 10, 1934, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania to Charles Andrew Reed and Helen Pauline Stoner Reed. On June 16, 1956, in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, he married Eleanor Ruth Miller, who predeceased him on September 7, 1993.
Paul and Eleanor moved to Caroga Lake, New York from Pennsylvania in August 1958, in order for him to begin his teaching career at the Wheelerville Union Free School District. He also taught in the Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School District and the Greater Johnstown School District before beginning his 30-year service with the Gloversville Enlarged School District. On Paul’s behalf, the family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to these communities for the privilege he had in serving them.
Paul is survived by his five children, Junietta Baker “June” McCall (John B. Pearson) of Concord, New Hampshire, Charles Warren “Ren” Reed of Gloversville, New York, Kelynne Elizabeth “Kelly” Reed of Sherman, Texas, Mary Pauline “Polly” Limbach (Keith Limbach) of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Helen Joanne “Jody” Curtin (James Curtin) of Palm Bay, Florida. He is survived by four grandsons, Jonathan Seth McCall (Sheri Zacher McCall) of Barrington, New Hampshire, Jeremiah Brierly McCall (Olivia Westcott) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Daniel Warren Clark (Carrie Freeman Clark) of Durham, North Carolina, and Matthew Graham Limbach of Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is survived by six great-grandsons. Paul is also survived by one brother, Keith Eugene Reed and his wife Dorothy Lou Shisler “Dottie” Reed, both of Souderton, Pennsylvania; and his sister-in-law, Mary Alice Prentice Reed of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Besides his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Ronald Lewis Reed.
Paul’s family would like to thank his home health care aides, Tanya, Tabitha, and Lillian as well as Mountain Valley Hospice of Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Gloversville Public Library or the First Congregational United Church of Christ Food Pantry (Gloversville).
The family will hold calling hours at the First Congregational United Church of Christ on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a memorial service to follow.
