Paul Andrew Zayicek passed away suddenly on Friday, September 6, 2019, in Gastonia, NC. Paul was born in Amsterdam, NY on November 5, 1955, the son of the late Andy and Betty Zayicek of Johnstown, NY. He was the grandson of the late Augustine and Terezia (Burda) Zayicek of Johnstown, NY and William and Margaret (Hartigan) Lotridge of Fonda, NY.
Paul grew up in Johnstown and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1973. He attended SUNY Morrisville. Paul relocated to the Charlotte, North Carolina area over 30 years ago. He continued his education and earned his BS in business management. He was a senior consultant at Structural Integrity. Paul was also an American Society of Nondestructive Testing Fellow.
Paul had a wide range of interest from gardening and beekeeping to antique auto restoration. He was a man dedicated to his family and his faith.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Hopkins Zayicek and her sons, Sam and Matthew (Maria); brother, Jim Zayicek of Glenville, NY; daughter, Caitlyn Mason (Ash) of Little Rock, Arkansas; son, Phillip David Firrantello of Boynton Beach, FL, and their mother, Iris L. Zayicek; and grandchildren, Jade and Myles Mason, and Maya Bahr.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Point Church in Belmont NC. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia, NC at 10:30 a.m.
