Alice Marion Davison Benedict, 97, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully at the Wells Nursing Home, in Johnstown, N.Y. on Nov. 1, 2020. She was a mother, grandmother, friend, a diligent and frequent worker, and the matriarch of her family; her greatest accomplishment. Alice was a former member of the Mayfield Methodist Church and the Methodist faith her entire life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Alice was born in Mayfield, N.Y. to the late Thomas Davison and Edith Holden Davison. She attended Gloversville H.S. before going to work an entire career of decades as a press operator at Decca Records and then went on to work at Lee Dying Corporation, Geraldine Novelty, Inc., Gloversville, as well as various other local glove companies with her last employment being at Andrest Glove Co., until her retirement in 1978. She was married to the late Richelieu A. Benedict, whom she married on Oct. 22, 1955. He predeceased her on July 14, 1978. They raised three cherished children; where love and the unity of a family were valued most.
Alice was proud of her involvement and love of her community. She was a former lifelong member and past president of VFW Post 2077, Gloversville N.Y., the Fraternity Rebecca Lodge, Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens, Johnstown Senior Center Outreach, and Fulmont Neighborhood Center. She was an active member in her younger years at Mayfield Methodist Church, Mayfield, N.Y. and past president of Tryon County Council, as well as many other community volunteer groups.
Alice leaves behind her loving children, Randy Benedict (Robin) of Elkton, MD, and Tami Brown of Gloversville, NY as well as grandchildren, Jamie Pruett, Sara Brown, Donald Brown, Tina Hillman, Danielle Navratil; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by not only her beloved husband, and parents but also her daughter, Toni Freeman; siblings, Eugene Davison, Kenneth Davison, Harry Davison, Betty Lorey, Anna Gallup, and Margaret Herdman; along with other cherished family members.
All services and visitation hours will be held with visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Ehle and Barnett Family Funeral Home, LLC located at 15 N. William Street, Johnstown, NY 12095. Interment will immediately follow the prayer service to begin at 11 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, at the funeral home with a family member and Reverend Albert Johnson to officiate. Interment will immediately follow in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y. where Alice will be laid to rest with her numerous family and beloved husband at the family plot, in the veterans’ section.
