Russell “Bucky” Daniel Walter, age 78 of Mayfield, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side. Bucky was born on August 13, 1942, to Eugenia VanNostrand Walter and Fred Walter. On February 2, 1968, Bucky and Mary Falacco were married and started their family. Bucky attended school in Meco and then enlisted in the Army, which he was very proud of serving. He worked at Rubin Gloves as a glove maker for many years and at Skiffs Dairy as a delivery driver where he met many wonderful customers.
In the 1980s Bucky took up a new hobby of hiking, canoeing and camping. He hiked many trails of the ADK Mountains but his favorite place to be was Upper Sargents Pond. This is where he met Jack Barrett and they became lifelong friends. In his later years, Bucky would use Helms Aero to fly into Upper Sargents. Bucky’s pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all who he loved dearly.
Bucky is survived by his children, Kimberly, Daniel, Kelly and Gina; grandchildren, Meackon (David), Christopher, Jasmine (Mike), Diamond (Salvatore), Makenzy, Kiana, Jamal, James and Maliya; great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Brantley, Kade, Salvatore Jr., Marcus, Layla and Rocco; siblings, Lois (Jerry), David (Patricia), Nancy (Bill), Johnny (Charlotte); and sisters- in-laws, Susan and Yvette; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, Tim Handy.
Bucky was predeceased by his parents; wife, Mary; brothers, Joel and Billy; and grandson, Kace.
As per his request, there will be no funeral services but this spring/summer family and friends will have a celebration of life.
The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice staff Sandy and Stephanie for their loving care, R.W. Williams for the great visits and especially his nurse, Susan, who our father absolutely adored. Tina Brown and Tami VanSlyke for the loving care of our father. Dr. Perreault and NLH third floor staff for the great care while he was in the hospital and Lisa Surnear for being with us the day our father passed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bucky’s name to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
