Robert “Bobby” Bates Sr., 83, of Gloversville, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021, in the hospital. He was the adored son of the late Marshall and Alberta (Kimberly) Bates Sr.; and brother of predeceased sisters, Alberta (Bates) Abel, Sylvia (Bates) Passero, and Emma Jean (Bates) Williams. He is loved and survived by his brothers, Marshall and his wife Nancy Bates Jr., and Warren Bates; his sister, Betty (Bates) Kowal; his many nieces and nephews; his sons, Robert Bates and Brian S. Bates and his wife Maria Bates with his children, Rebecca, Jamie, Brian T., Selena, Lili, Lawrence, and Bethany.
He was respected for his unselfish service in the U.S. Army. His wit, smile, humor, and generosity were infectious to those near him. From afar he would share his heart with his ‘Sweeties’ and with respectful innocence retell the story with a grin. He adored the freedom of riding his red Goldwing trike to local speedways, bowling, and playing cards with his buddies. His kindness will be missed in a world that sometimes is not. Bob was the kind of man that would be there for you if you needed him to. He was someone you could rely on. He had many epigrams that brought smiles and laughs to those who knew him. He will be remembered riding away, one last time, on his red Goldwing trike.
