After a short post graduate period, he entered military service in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and spent a share of this time on the USCG Menemsha, a gun training ship for U.S. naval personnel.

Upon his discharge in 1946, he entered Utica College, later transferring to The School of Physical Therapy at Ithaca College. While on clinical assignment at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, he met and later married Jane Barbour from St John’s, Newfoundland, who was a staff instructor at the hospital. He and Jane were both members of the American and New York Physical Therapy Associations.

His first professional position was as a physical therapist with the New York State Health Department providing services to home patients within the Fulton-Montgomery County areas. His wife, Jane was a staff physical therapist at Sunnyview Rehab Hospital in Schenectady.

He and Jane returned to Gloversville, and they went into private practice of physical therapy at their East State Street residence. Following his retirement from the State Health Department, he accepted a position as Chief Physical Therapist at Nathan Littauer Hospital which he held until his retirement in 1989.

Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, and took great joy in singing with the Mohawk Valley Choir and the “Wood Shedders” group in Florida. He was a member of the Gloversville Lions Club for 62 years and served as president of that organization. He was a member of the Mayfield Yacht Club and enjoyed boating and spending time on Sand Island on the Sacandaga Reservoir. He and Jane spent their retirement years on Peck Lake, making many memories with family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with former WW II veterans who met daily at the Gloversville Senior Center.

When his wife, Jane, required intermediate care due to illness, they moved to Kingsway Community in Schenectady, NY, where they both spent their final years.
