The family of Betty Alice Bates Osborne, age 96, of Fonda, are sad to share that our Mom passed away on April 17, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam. She will forever be missed.
Born on December 19, 1924, in Gloversville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Cleora Gage Bates.
She married the only love of her life, Elton M. Osborne, on September 6, 1942. They were together until his passing on June 28, 2001.
In addition to her parents and our father, Mom was predeceased by two sons, David Allen Osborne and Paul Ernest Osborne; her sister, Louise Volpp; and brother, Garrett Gage.
She leaves behind her heart-broken but grateful children, Bonita Bartholomew (William), Judith Hayes (Daniel), Douglas Osborne, Beth Osborne, Beverly Osborne (Jamison); grandchildren, Andrew Bartholomew, Beth Amy Ambos, Brian Osborne, Jeannie Osborne and Matthew Osborne; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also will live on in the memories of all the people who were fortunate enough to know and love her, as she was truly a shining light for all of us.
Besides raising an amazing family (if we do say so ourselves) of six children, she also was a friend and confidante to many. As cliched as it is, her smile lit up a room, and while she was as stubborn as the day is long, she almost always did it with a laugh. She was an incredibly active member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and on the Ladies Auxiliary; co-chaired annual fundraisers; and was a founding member of the church’s “holy rollers,” aka the people who could be found in the kitchen of the church making pies for all church events. She was also active with the Presbyterian Women, Iroquois Seniors, and was a Public Health volunteer for many years.
We also want to say a profound thank you to all of the people who have reached out and offered us support over the last several years; and in particular her aide, Patrice, who took amazing care of mom (and Jax) for the last year.
While we are all incredibly saddened by Mom’s passing, we are grateful for the years we had with her and in knowing she has been reunited with her loved ones. We just hope that she and Aunt Reenie aren’t still washing all the dishes.
