Susan Bluvas

Susan P. Bluvas, age 60, of Gloversville, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021, at home with her loving family by her side.

Born on October 21, 1960, in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Patricia (Knowles) and Milton Smith.

Susan was a graduate of Wells Central School and BOCES LPN Program, class of 1979. In 1977, she won first place with her essay for the “Voice of Hope” for Hamilton County. Ironically, the Voice of Hope was established to advocate hope in the future for a cure for cancer.

Susan was an LPN at various hospitals and nursing homes throughout her career. She was last employed by St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY. In addition to nursing, Susan helped her husband with the family commercial cleaning business as the Human Resource Manager and Safety Training.

Susan was an avid hiker and enjoyed spending her time outdoors living life to the fullest and enjoying everyone around her. She was the person that helped others when they needed help. Susan was truly an inspiration to everyone. She was one of the most kind-hearted people that you would ever meet, a person that always stepped up to help anyone struggling or needing assistance.

She was married to the love of her life for 33 years, Christopher G. Bluvas on September 24, 1987.

In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her son, Christopher John Bluvas, both of Gloversville, NY; daughter, Victoria Rose of Orlando, FL; mother, Patricia (Knowles) Viola of Wells, NY; brother, Stephen M. Smith of Danbury, CT; brother, Scott D. Smith of Ridgefield, CT; sister, Sharon Stokoe of Scottsville, NY, Kimberly McRae Friedman of Cortland, NY. She is also survived and loved by too many to mention such as many stepbrothers and stepsisters, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Susan was predeceased by her father, Milton Smith.

I never knew anyone so brave until I saw my wife, my friend fighting cancer, fighting for her life like a warrior. While death ends her life, it does not end her relationship with us, as she will live on inside of us for the rest of our lives.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at noon at the Holy Trinity Church, 205 Glebe Street, Johnstown, NY.

Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service at the church from 10 a.m. until noon.

Interment will be at St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.
