Mrs. Alice Brown McEwan, 97, of McEwan Road, Canajoharie, New York died Saturday, September 25, 2021 at St. Johnsville Rehab & Nursing Center.
Born on April 25, 1924 she was the daughter of Harold Brown and Vera Chase Brown. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School, Class of 1941. She had been a resident of the Canajoharie area since 1945, growing up in Gloversville.
Mrs. McEwan was a member of the Marshville Evangelical Church.
She was a former member of the Valley Choralaires, and Cross Trails Square Dancing. She enjoyed cooking and having get-togethers. She also liked gardening and mowing her lawn.
On December 1, 1945 at the Freemont Methodist Church in Gloversville Alice was married to W. Ralph McEwan. Together they celebrated over 61 years. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2007. Her brothers, Luther Brown, Delos Brown and sister, Jessie Cox also predeceased her.
Mrs. McEwan is survived by her son, Dennis and Lydia McEwan; daughter, Carol and Joseph Cechnicki; grandchildren, Dawn Marie Newport and Kris, Michael David Cechnicki, Amy Lynn and William Flavin, Melissa Diane Cechnicki; great-grandchildren, Will and Addison Flavin.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date.
