Mary J. Macvean, 81, of State Highway 67, Johnstown passed away at home after a long illness on Friday, September 24, 2021, with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Cooperstown on July 8, 1940, a daughter of Howard and Katherine Davenport Krofft and was educated in Johnstown. Mary lived in Gloversville before moving to the town of Johnstown after her marriage to Robert.
Mrs. Macvean worked at the former Woolworth’s in Gloversville for several years. She also assisted in the operation of the family dairy farm and sold Avon for many years. Mary was a member of the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.
She was always on the go and enjoyed traveling with her husband when they were able to get away from the farm. Mary loved Christmas and enjoyed shopping for her family. Her special gift was stockings full of Avon products.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters and their spouses, Nellie (Chuck) Samsel, Dorcas (Harold) Price, Margaret (David) Shibley, and Wanita (Jack) Sardelli.
Survivors include her husband, Robert, whom she married on August 21, 1977; five children, Judith (Bill) Gotobed, Harry (Beth) LaMont, Karen (Dale) Palmateer-Murcray, Robert LaMont, and Lara Macvean; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
