Robert Gene Finch

Robert Gene Finch passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. He was born in Fish House, NY, the son of Esther Iretta LaPiere Finch and Gordon Nelson Finch. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1968.

He attended the Northampton School at Fish House through sixth grade then Broadalbin through eleventh grade when he left school to go to work and help support his family. He worked for Carpenter and Sunderland Lumber Co., the Shoddy Mill and Wood and Hyde Leather. He also worked for Van Patten Construction driving truck in Clifton Park. For many years he worked driving fork truck for Sism Lumber. He retired from Hussman Corp. as a Braiser/welder and then worked in the woods with his son Randall for several years. He was a good carpenter, he loved to hunt, fish, play cards and pool. He also enjoyed anything that had to do with water. Besides his family, he is most proud of being a 1st Gunners Mate on the USS Boston.

Robert met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Winn in 1961. They built their forever home and raised their five children in Edinburg, NY. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen on July 13, 2020. He is also predeceased by his parents and brother, Roger Finch.

Robert is survived by his five children, Randall R. Finch (Renee) of Edinburg, Evonne M. Barber (John) of Edinburg, Rodney G. Finch (Dawn) of Edinburg, Evette M. Ostrander (Bart) of Mayfield and Reggie B. Finch (Rebecca) of Providence; nine grandchildren, Amber Vandenburg(Catlin), Gordon Finch(Mandy), Jessica West(Jason), Robert Barber (Tanya), Kayla Hayes (Will), Cynthia Ostrander (Sean), Shadow Ostrander (Heather), Jenna Finch (Mike) and Kaylee Finch; twelve great grandchildren, Trevor and Travis Vandenburg, Luke and Molly West, Rodney and Sadie Hayes, Matthew and Konner Barber, Lillian Comini and Abigail Krutz, Ellie and Lydia Ostrander. He is also survived by brother, David Finch, sisters Patricia Ferguson (Roger) and Flora Howitt (Dave). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5pm until 7pm at the Northville Funeral Service, Inc., 401 Bridge Street, Northville, NY 12134. A graveside service will be on Saturday September 11, 2021 at the Clarksville Cemetery on Tennantville Road in Edinburg at 1pm.
