David J. Moynehan

David J. Moynehan, who grew up in Johnstown, N.Y.,
passed away last week in New York City at the age of
75 of an apparent heart attack.
The son of Catherine and John D. Moynehan, David
attended St. Patrick’s School and Johnstown High
School. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and
later graduated from the College of Holy Cross in
Worcester, M.A.
David worked the majority of his career in the field
of reinsurance, in both the United States and Europe.
He studied in France during his college years so he
could speak several languages. From his early days at
Royal Mountain, all through his life, David passionately
enjoyed skiing all over the world.
David was a genuinely likable guy. He was very
smart, quick-witted, and overall was a funny and fun
guy to be around. He was gracious and thoughtful
towards others, but also cared about himself and his
place in the world. David fit well in New York City
and was comfortable there.
He is survived by his sister, Betsy, of Johnstown;
brother Jack, (and his wife Anne), of Newport, R.I. as
well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his
sister, Barbara.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing
period on Saturday, Oct. 30th, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until
10:30 a.m. at 15 N. William Street, Johnstown, N.Y.
12095, where a prayer service will be in David’s memory
immediately to follow the visitation. period.
Following prayer service, a Rite of Committal Service
will be said at the family plot in St. Patrick’s cemetery,
where he will be laid to rest. Fr. Matt Wetsel
will preside over all services.
