Joyce Kay Shepardson Houle, 56, of Johnstown, NY passed away on Thursday September 30, 2021 after a long illness.
She was born in Cherry Point, NC on July 25, 1965 and after moving between military bases, her family eventually settled in Johnstown. It was here that she met her best friend, Theresa, and her eventual husband, Armand, whom she married in 1983 with their second child on the way.
After enrolling at FMCC and earning her Associate’s Degree while raising her three children, Joyce worked for a number of years at the Johnstown Knitting Mill. When a house fire forced the family to rebuild from scratch, Joyce began her employment at the bakery for Price Chopper. She made the finest bagels in town, especially the cinnamon without raisins.
Survivors include her mother, Gladys; her husband of thirty eight years, Armand; two sisters, Gloria and Kathy; three children, Robert, Adam, and Fleur; two grandchildren, Juliana and Natalie; aunt, Patricia, uncle Raymond; several nieces, nephews; and the children that grew up calling her “Aunt Joyce.”
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 7 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black St.), Johnstown. Final burial will be at the Johnstown Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
