William Fensken

William Fensken, age 95, of Gloversville, Passed away
Saturday evening, October 9, 2021 at Fulton Center,
Gloversville.
He was born April 15, 1926 in E. Prussia, Germany,
the son of the late August and Natalia Fenske. He immigrated
to America in 1952, risking his life escaping
from East Germany from behind the Iron Curtain. He
married his beloved wife, Helga, in 1959. They were
together for 56 years until her passing in April of 2015.
He learned a trade in television repair when he came
to America and for 25 years, he was the man in town
for TV repair. Known for his honesty and hard work,
he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He volunteered
at church as a handyman and grew vegetables
for the community in need. There are many great
men among us, who go unnoticed, he was one of them.
Bill was a member of Concordia Club and St. James/
Grace Lutheran Church, Johnstown.
He enjoyed gardening, working around the house,
tinkering, fixing things, especially for his children,
hiking, traveling and listening to his German music.
Bill is survived by three children, Thomas Fensken
(Linda) of Liverpool, Heidi Parkes of Clifton Park and
James Fensken (Anne) of Cicero; five grandchildren,
Allison Machnick, Andrew Parkes, Jeffrey Fensken,
Michael Fensken and Michele Fensken; a great-grandson,
Cameron Machnick.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his
wife, Helga Fensken, a brother, Otto Fenske; and two
sisters, Marguerite and Herta.
A Memorial Service will take place at 10 am Saturday,
October 30 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home,
51 Fremont St; Gloversville. Facial masks will be required.
Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery,
Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be
made in lieu of flowers to the American Red Cross/
Northeastern New York Chapter, 33 Everett Road Albany,
NY 12205.
