Alice L. Hopes

Alice L. Hopes, 79, passed away peacefully at home
on Wednesday November 24, 2021, surrounded by
her family.
She was born in Summit, NY on March 30, 1942,
a daughter of John and Clara Stibinger Balogh and
was a 1959 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Alice
was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Hopes was employed as a bookkeeper at
Mohasco Carpet Mills. Later, she established “Alice’s
Wonderland of Gifts” in Broadalbin, where
she handmade beautiful gifts for twenty-six years.
When she sold the business, her favorite place became
“Alice’s Wonderland Craft Room”, where she
created beautiful handmade cards.
Alice was a devoted and longtime member of the
Northampton United Methodist Church at Fish
House and served as financial secretary.
She enjoyed reading, making cards, gardening, and
cooking. Mostly, she loved spending time with her
family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by
two brothers, Johnny and Ricky Balogh, and a sister,
Loretta Crannell.
Survivors include her husband, Richard N. Hopes,
whom she married on July 1, 1961; two daughters,
Lorraine Bogdan and Elizabeth Bezio; five grandchildren,
Brandon Bezio, Andy, Opal, Gregory, and
Dennis Bogdan; and three great-grandchildren, Carson,
Aria, and Westin Bezio.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium,
Schenectady.
A calling hour will be held on Sunday from noon –
1 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111
County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black
Street), Johnstown followed by a Service of Remembrance
at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Oliver, officiating.
Facial coverings are respectfully recommended. Final
burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to the church, in care
of the funeral home.
