Rita Ann Myers Fick

Gloversville – Rita Ann Myers Fick, 80, of West Pine Street, Gloversville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 23, 2022 surrounded by her loving family following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Gloversville on June 22, 1941, she was a daughter of Harold and Helen O’Donnell Myers. Rita was a lifelong area resident and attended St. Francis of Assisi and Gloversville High schools.
Rita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In her early years, Rita worked in a local glove shop and was a crossing guard on South Main Street for several years. She was employed at Sears as a customer service specialist in the catalog and parts departments and then in the parts department at Montgomery Ward. Rita left the workforce in 1984 to care for her grandson. For the next 30 years, Rita was affectionately known as Grandma Rita to not only the grandchildren she cared for, but also the numerous family, friend, and neighborhood children she babysat.
On June 24, 1978, Rita married Edward Harvard “Buck” Fick, Jr. Together they spent many years hiking, attending primitive rendezvous throughout the Northeast, and enjoying time at their camp in Caroga Lake. She later cared for Buck during his illness until his passing on April 20th, 2019. Rita had the kindest soul, the biggest heart, the most infectious laugh, and made friends everywhere she went. Rita was an amazing cook. Although everything she made was absolutely delicious, her family’s favorites were her macaroni and cheese, pasta fazool, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and snicker doodles.
Rita enjoyed her Friday night card club, listening to music, singing, watching old movies, playing solitaire, and talking on the phone. She was an avid QVC shopper and cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Julius “Jay” Roller of West Point, UT, Connie Anderson of Mayfield, Karen (Mitchell) Blackwood of Gloversville, and Kathy (Paul) Johnson, of Mayfield; her step-children, Edward (Maryanne) Fick of Schenectady, James Fick of Gloversville, and Debra (John) Benedict of Gansevoort; her sister, Claudia (Delbert “Butch”) Pyne of Johnstown; grandchildren, Rachael Roller, Megan Sauce, Jamie Jordan, Joshua Anderson, Mitchell Blackwood, Kristina Blackwood, Alexandra Johnson, Jared Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Jason Starks, Eddie Fick, Michael Fick, Justin Boyd, Tabitha Fick, Danielle Boardman and John Benedict; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
