Gloversville – Genevieve J. Coon, age 95, of Gloversville, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side.
Born June 27, 1926, in Gloversville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Bernice (Farrington) Fancher.
Genevieve graduated from Plattsburgh with a degree in teaching. She taught many generations of her “Meco” family after retiring from the Gloversville Enlarged School District after 36 years.
In her spare time, she loved long walks, cultivating her flower garden, knitting, and crafting creating many unique things. Genevieve was an avid bowler and golfer into her 90’s. Most importantly she loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Slovinsky (late Stanley), Nancy Joseph (Clovel) and Luanne Baird(David); brothers, Donald, and David Fancher; sister, Mavis Ide; grandchildren, Amy Sargalis (David Simon), Heather Melita (Steve), Aiyana Joseph (TJ Macfarlane), Nathan Joseph(Rachel); great grandchildren who she was affectionately known as “Bug” Wyatt and Reed Sargalis , Bennett ,Brennan and Braelin Melita, Hayden and Evan Sladewski and Genevieve Macfarland; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins..
In addition to her parents Genevieve is predeceased by her first husband Lewis Persch who passed away in 1964, Willard Coon in 2019 sisters Eleanor Reed and Ruth Arnold.
Genevieve was blessed to have wonderful caregivers for the past 2 years , words cannot express our gratitude to Indie, Pat, Deb K, Debra, and Val.
A Graveside Service will be held in the spring at Ferndale Cemetery on Saturday May 21, 2022, at a time to be determined by the family.
