James Place

Tarpon Springs, Fl – Mr. James R Place, age 75, of Tarpon Springs, FL (formerly of Gloversville) passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 after a short illness.
He was born December 7, 1946 to the late Russell and Ethel (Elmendorf) Place and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1965. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the US Navy where he served until 1969. After he served, Jim worked for City National Bank and the Curtin-Hebert Co, Inc. until he moved to Florida in 2001.  
In 1971, Jim married the love of his life, Lynda (Hallenbeck). Jim and Lynda celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2021. Jim is survived by his wife, Lynda, daughters Sarah (George) Lanum of Woodbridge, VA and Kelly (Peter) Zervas of Tampa, FL, his 3 grandchildren, Magdalena, Leon and Alexander Zervas and 2 grand-puppies, Rupert and Carmen Lanum. Jim is also survived by his sister Sandra (Orville) Pettit, brother David (Brenda) Place, special nephew Jonathan (Stacy) Judge and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Jim will be remembered most for his love of his family, the NY Giants and his compassionate and giving nature. He loved cookouts and clam-bakes with his family and chatting with everyone he met. He never missed watching a Giants game or a Duke basketball game. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Barbara Place.
Per Jim’s wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements will be handled by Thomas B Dobies Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs. Jim’s family would like to thank the nursing staff of the PCU at Advent Health North Pinellas for their loving and compassionate care of Jim, especially his nurses Mikenna, Julia and Valentina.
