William R. Shaul

Palatine Bridge – Mr. William Robert Shaul, 75, of Palatine Bridge, New York died Thursday, May 5, 2022 at his home.
Born on February 21, 1947 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Robert E. Shaul and Clara Louise Bell Shaul. William was a lifelong local area resident. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1965. He was also a graduate of Syracuse University receiving a BA in Math and MS; University of Albany, receiving MS in Educational Psychology; and California State University in Sacramento certifying him as a Community College Educator.
He was a teacher for Cherry Valley Central School for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he spent a short time as a College Professor. He was the basketball coach for CVCS for modified, junior varsity, and varsity boys and girls.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Shaul served as Class Advisor, Mathematics Honor Society Advisor, and National Junior Honor Society Advisor. He received an Award for Excellence in Teaching at the National Teachers Hall of Fame, and the “One in a Million” Teacher’s Award, and the Rockstar Teacher’s Award. He was a musician. He enjoyed playing Trumpet in several local bands.
His parents and sister, Lorraine Shaul predeceased him.
William is survived by his brother, Gerald E. (Iris) Shaul; 1 niece; 3 nephews, and several cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, at the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY, 13317. Burial services will take place privately at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
