Edinburg – Guy W. Edwards was born on October 17, 1929, in the family home in Edinburg, New York, son of the late Walter B. Edwards and Ethel G. Wilbur Edwards. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family on August 15, 2022, one day after his 62nd wedding anniversary.
Guy and Dorothy met through her family’s lumber business and started dating in 1957. They married three years later on August 14, 1960. They have two sons, Toby and Walter.
Guy was an avid farmer who thoroughly enjoyed tending to his animals and plowing his fields. He enjoyed horseback riding in his youth and attending fairs in neighboring counties and states. His passion was hunting with his friends and family.
In his late teen years, he worked at Shufelt’s at the Four Corners in Edinburg. Guy started driving a school bus at age 21 for Edinburg Common School and continued driving for nearly 50 years. As a young man he took over the operations of the family farm which is now in the fourth generation of Edwards. He was a logger and the operator of the family sugar bush his whole life. In the early 70’s, he cut and sold Christmas trees during the holidays with the help of his wife and sons.
Guy was an active member of the community. He was a volunteer for the Edinburg Emergency Squad and an original member of the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Company. He spent many evenings digging the foundation for the Edinburg Fire department with his John Deere 420 bulldozer. Guy was also on the Edinburg town board for many years.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Edwards; two sons Toby (Beth) Edwards and Walter (Teresa) Edwards of Edinburg; five grandchildren: Alyssa (Jason Briskie) Edwards of Edinburg, Ashlee (David) Weddell of Mayfield, Jesse Edwards of Broadalbin, Shane Edwards (United States Army) of Edinburg, Nathan Edwards (Served in the United States Army) of Johnstown; and seven great grandchildren; Julian, Emma-lynn, Addilynn, and Westlynn Briskie, Rayna, Rhenn and Rorri Weddell.
He is also survived by one brother Bert Edwards of North Carolina; two sister in-laws Bonnie Edwards of Broadalbin and Pricilla Edwards of Edinburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog Foxy.
He is predeceased by his brothers Jay Edwards, Earl Edwards; and three sisters Alta Winn, Elfleda (DeDe) Olmstead, and Tressa Hopkins.
The viewing hours will be on Sunday, August 28th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral immediately following at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street, Northville, NY 12134.
Burial will take place at the Clarkville Cemetery after the funeral with a gathering following at Guy and Dorothy’s family home.
