Kathryn J. Turnbull

Tribes Hill – Kathryn J. Turnbull, 85, of Howlan Street, Tribes Hill, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville. She was born in the Town of Mohawk, NY on December 22, 1936. She was one of nine children of Leo and Nancy Whitmore McRedmond and was a 1953 graduate of Fonda High School. Kathryn was a sixty-year resident of the Village of Tribes Hill.
Kay was employed in the dietary department at the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for twenty-three years and retired in 2002. She was a devoted parishioner of the Presbyterian faith and was a certified lay preacher. She thoroughly enjoyed preaching and used her writing skills to provide carefully crafted and meaningful sermons in four local churches. She was also a member of the ART-WEL United Chapter #208 Order of the Eastern Star in Amsterdam, NY.
Following her retirement, Kay completed clown classes and became known as “Mrs. Checkers”. She visited local schools to share her balloon making talents and magic tricks. Kathryn enjoyed working with children and assisted with fun arts & crafts projects. She was an avid reader of many genres and would spend hours reading books she found intriguing.
Survivors include her son, Michael J. Turnbull of Guilderland; her daughter, Nancy M. Turnbull (Erica) of Gloversville; a sister, Ruth Stefanacci of Asheboro,NC; three grandsons, Anthony Turnbull, Thomas Panasiuk, and Brian Hicks; and several nieces and nephews, including Ginny Rockefeller, Joanne (Greg) Goodrich, and Paul (Robin) Stefanacci.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown followed by a funeral service at 1pm at the funeral home with Rev. Ken Applegate, officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to either Mountain Valley Hospice in care of the funeral home, or online to the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation.
