John Ivancic


Caroga Lake – John A. Ivancic, age 85, of Caroga Lake, NY, and Palm Bay FL, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, NY.
Born on November 17, 1936, in Johnstown, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Martinek) Ivancic.
John graduated from Johnstown High and Oswego State University where he received his master’s degree in Industrial Arts. He was employed with Oneida County BOCES as a vocational education teacher and guidance counselor until his retirement in 1992. He was also a member of the BOCES teachers’ association. John resided in Sauquoit where he raised his family. He was a member of the Sauquoit Valley Central School Board from 1983 to 1993. John along with his best friend Willam Houck purchased Pine Lake Campsite in 1971. John ran this business until his retirement in 2007 (currently named Pine Lake Park). He was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church and the Holy Trinity Church, Johnstown, NY.
He married his loving wife, Ruth Alton Ivancic in 1961, who survives.
John is also survived by his son, Michael Ivancic (Stacey), John Ivancic (Sue), Craig Ivancic (Andrea); sisters, Eileen Hill, Janice Quick; 7 grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his two sons, Carey Ivancic in 1970 and Richard Ivancic in 2009.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be at St Anthony’s Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY.
