Mary Ellen Cromer

Johnstown – Mary Ellen Cromer, 81, formerly of Trackside Homes, Johnstown, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
She was born in Teaneck, NJ on May 17, 1941, a daughter of William and Marie Scholz Price and was a 1958 graduate of Holy Trinity High School. Mary Ellen moved to Fonda in 1983 and later to Mayfield before moving to Johnstown.
Mrs. Cromer worked as a secretary for the FBI in New Jersey and later worked as an executive assistant for several companies there. Locally, she worked as a legal secretary for area firms until retiring six years ago.
Mary Ellen was a member of the former Forrester’s Club. She enjoyed bowling and bowled in leagues for nearly sixty years. During the last five years, she bowled in three different leagues and carried close to a 150 average in all three. She enjoyed the people she met through bowling and participated in tournaments up until five years ago. Mary Ellen also loved to drive to visit family and friends or simply to bring home some crumb cakes from Hackensack, NJ.
Survivors include a daughter, Terri (Jay) Romeyn of Gloversville; a son, Chuck (Patty) Murray of Alpharetta, GA; a brother, Bill Price of NJ; three sisters, Pat Eickman and Maureen Yowe, both of NJ and Linda Sasser of KS; five grandchildren, Zach, Zoey, Adam, Aidan, and Ashley; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Bonnie Orth, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., in care of the funeral home.
