Lynchburg, VA – Doris Eugenia Gifford, 87, passed away February 1, 2023 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Joseph Gifford, of 65 years, her father Abram Jones, her mother Edna Steve Jones, her sisters Irene Zimmerman and Beverly Lowenthal, her brother Richard Jones, and her great grandson, Owen Lewis.
Born in Gloversville, NY on April 15, 1935, she was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Doris lived a life of devoted service to Jesus, her family, and others. She was a proud member of the Sacandaga Bible Conference, and was known affectionately as the “pie lady.” She served as the head cook of the conference, and even ran the snack shop. While in New York she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist church and Perth Bible Church where she and her husband Walt led the Young at Heart ministry. Being involved in and around the church was important to Doris, as she would regularly sing in the choir and teach Sunday school. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and active with the Logos Sunday school class. She was loved by many, especially by her family.
She is survived by her children: Gregory Gifford (Carol), Stephen Gifford (Judith), and Constance Daggett (Jon). Grandchildren: Stephenie Shepherd (Daniel), Philip Gifford (Pamela), Elizabeth Lewis (John), Daniel Gifford (Tabitha), Matthew Gifford (Sarah), Cynthia Stuckey (Jacob), and Sarah Glass (Anthony), and 22 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 in Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
