Ephratah – Chiyoko Hulsaver, age 75, of Ephratah, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on February 21, 1948, in Okinawa, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Shizuko Gushiken.
Chiyoko met her husband, Robert Hulsaver, during his deployment in Okinawa with the United States Air Force. They married in March of 1970 and later moved to Ephratah, NY, where they shared 53 happy years.
Anyone who knew Chiyoko knew that she was a hard worker and devoted to her family. She worked for Knox Gelatin, Johnstown Knitting Mill, as well as the Wells Nursing Home.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed many hours tending to her plants and vegetables in the summer. She also liked to cook and one of her specialties was her fried rice which she received several compliments and requests for.
Chiyoko is survived by her husband, Robert Hulsaver of Ephratah, NY; daughter Chasity Hulsaver of Johnstown, NY; sister-in-law, Connie Fowler (Keith) of Fort Plain, NY; her family in Japan as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Mountain Valley Hospice staff for their great support and care they provided during these last three months.
Chiyoko will be interred at the Ephratah Rural Cemetery in the spring where a private ceremony will take place at the convenience of the family.
