Thilitha Lucille “Lucy” (McGuire) Bunner, passed quietly Saturday, March 18, 2023, at River Ridge Living Center, Amsterdam, NY. Lucy had fought Alzheimer’s Disease with the greatest courage for many years.
Born August 4, 1928, in Roanoke, VA, Lucy was one of 3 sisters raised in a single parent home by her mother. A true, simple soul with a heart trained-up to create ‘home’, on the strength of ties to family, she served generously – in the ‘Southern-Style’ – and clothed in her ‘apron’ fed all until satisfied ’round her table. Always the mother, she delighted even in her grayest years in the energy of small busy children. She enjoyed the outdoors, the planting and fussing about her flowerbeds and preferred the beauty of those ‘living’ flowers most of all. She could not walk through the park without pausing to deadhead the flowers in the huge planters as she passed.
Lucy’s survived by her husband of 75 years, Albert D. Bunner Jr; her 4 children: Michael K. Bunner (Debbie) of Knoxville, TN, Abby McGuire (Alberta Bunner) of Portland, OR, Albert A. Bunner of Leesburg, FLA, and Mark M.Bunner (Rhonda) of Loveland, CO ; one sister Juanita Jennings of NC ; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews. We treasure our memories of her, and the warm embrace of her smile will ever bless each one of us.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY with Pastor ‘Ron’ Talbott of the North Bush United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be at Northbush Cemetery in the spring.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, and honoring Lucy’s own preference, that any desired donations be “living ones” made in Lucy’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org.
