Gloversville – Shirley J. Luck, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Mt. Valley Hospice Home, Gloversville with her family by her side.
She was born on June 22, 1927, in Amsterdam to the late Margaret (Carbonelli) Billington and the late Horace Billington.
Shirley started her career in the early 50” s as an Amsterdam YMCA instructor for swimming and boating. Moving to Johnstown with her family in 1966, she was appointed the director of the newly formed Senior Citizens Group. In 1978, Luck served as an advisory planner and coordinator to build a new Senior Center. It was one of the first city buildings to run with a solar system for heating.
Shirley retired after 25 years in 1991 and the city renamed the building in honor of its founder, Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center. She has been so proud to see that the Senior Center is continuing to grow to serve our senior community.
Shirley loved to travel abroad and doing research in genealogy, her travels brought her to China, England, and Northern Wales where she located family and met her second husband. She is survived by her children; Michael (Laura) Luck, Cheryl LaVoie, Margaret Luck, Corinne Stearns (Randy Burkdorf), Her Grandchildren; Missy (Keith) Stoutner, Tamara DiMattia, Michael Luck, Sierra Luck, Eddie (Danielle) Davis, Nathan (Melissa) Luck, Jenny (Steve) Bahruth, Warren (Katrina) Maas, Jessica MacNamara (Ryan Hernigle), 14 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren, and Siblings, Richard Billington, Sharon (Edward) Maslak, & Lynn Magliocca, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her first husband Robert E. Luck, second husband Maldwyn Hughes, her sons, Robert Luck and Neil Luck.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery Fonda, reception to follow at the SJL Senior Center in Johnstown.
