Confier, CO – James Ernst, formerly of Gloversville, NY passed away on Thursday, September 7, after a brief illness. He would have been 77 on September 11. He is survived by his wife, Heidi, of Conifer, Colorado and his siblings Donald (Flora) of Gloversville, Janice (Ralph Hensel) of Johnstown, Clayton (Jewel) of Gloversville, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jim Blackford of Utah, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Edna (Gutha) Ernst, as well as a brother, Clyde.
Jim enjoyed life to the fullest whether biking, hiking or hunting with his brothers or close friend from Gloversville, George Brown. He always remembered his family through visits to Gloversville in tow with the many treasures he obtained (like antler heads) from his Colorado garage sale purchases.
He was a 1964 graduate of Gloversville High School and the State University of New York and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for McSherrys, the Fulton County Silk Mill and briefly for GE, but his primary career was an auditor for the IRS and with the Defense Contract Audit Agency. After his retirement he volunteered doing tax returns for AARP and helped build homes with Habitat. Jim’s whole life was spent helping others.
When living in Gloversville, Jim was a member of the former Fremont United Methodist Church.
Cremation to take place at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
A celebration of Jim’s life for family and friends will be held at the Holiday Inn in Johnstown, NY on October 7 at 2 p.m.
