The recent editorial (“Hunters need a voice”) is off the mark. We have the New York State Conservation Council.
But we also need the NRA. It’s not the Second Amendment for deer hunters. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights like speech, worship and self-defense, etc. Self-defense is a God-given right to assure no government would infringe the natural (God-given) rights to anyone. The founders of our country incorporated Jefferson’s thesis underlying the Declaration into the Constitution in the form of the Second Ammendment. It protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. This is a God-given right.
You may give up your God-given rights, but you may not give up mine or anyone else’s. Jefferson also said the blood of patriots may have to be shed to protect these God-given rights. You should read the Federalist papers to understand better the Constitution.
