Yes, three cheers for the sales tax even though it’s the most regressive of taxes.
I find it hard to believe The Leader-Herald praises record tax revenues while at the same time acknowledging it is the result of inflation, mostly due to the price of gasoline, rather than the expansion of the local economy.
These higher prices on food and energy especially hurt seniors on fixed incomes, which make up a large segment of our local population. I suppose next we will be giving “cheers” for the robust Valentine’s Day sales in Fulton and Montgomery counties associated with “welfare bucks.”
