I was sad to read that Beacon Wearhouse will be going out of business at the end of the month.
Let me share a story of customer service that shoppers will not get from large out of town stores that are not locally owned.
Ten years ago, my son was in the military stationed in the Persian Gulf as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He turned 20 years old in a desert half a world away. When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday he said a “wooly” hat because the sand kept getting in his hair.
The end of April is not a good time of year to look for a winter hat. I called every clothing store I could think of to purchase the hat. It was not until I called Susan at Beacon Wearhouse that I found the hat. All the other stores said they had put their winter hats away for the season.
When I told Susan about my son’s birthday wish, she told me she would get her winter stock out and for me to come and get the hat I wanted. I chose three hats and Susan did not even charge me for the hats. She told me that it was her birthday gift to my son, whom she had never met.
