State funds are tax dollars

I am not a resident of Northampton or the village of Northville, but have noted many of politicians saying things like they are “looking for grants and other state funding as a way of alleviating the costs on the taxpayers.” The most recent was Linda Kemper, who is running for re-election as town supervisor in Northampton.

My question is this – since when are grants and other state funding not a cost to the taxpayers? People seem to think that state money is free. It is not! State funding and federal grants come only from taxes paid by the taxpayers – they are not free. It is time for politicians to look for real ways to reduce the cost of government, like consolidating the redundancy and eliminating administrative positions in governments like the town of Northampton and the village of Northville.
