Recently a group of local home-grown musicians, myself included, gave an evening of old-time train songs to a very supportive audience at the Johnstown Public Library as a fundraiser for the new series of Johnstown summer concerts organized by Bill Ackerbauer. There were no empty seats and the audience gave generously to support Bill’s public-spirited project. Various positive comments about the show have been voiced on Facebook, but I didn’t observe any of them thanking our host, Johnstown Public Librarian Erica Wing, who moved chairs, greeted visitors, made the musicians welcome, and no doubt also put up with cleaning the crumbs left over from the refreshments.
Giving time and space to an event of this sort illustrates the community-mindedness of Wing and the library board.
