Amsterdam Mohawks shut out Saugerties in PGCBL action

SAUGERTIES – The Amsterdam Mohawks won their third game in a row on Thursday, 11-0, over last year’s PGCBL champion, Saugerties, at Cantine Field.

The East Division-leading Mohawks (15-3) scored first in the top of the third. Michael O’Shaughnessy led off with a single, moved to second on a fielder’s choice and came home on Gage Miller’s single.

Amsterdam added three runs in the fourth after getting five consecutive hits.

Saugerties (7-9) briefly threatened in the bottom of the fourth by getting runners on first and second with two outs, but the Mohawks kept the Stallions off the scoreboard.

Zach Gardiner’s two-run single in the fifth made it 6-0. The Mohawks added their seventh run in the seventh when Nick Giamarusti came home on a double-steal.

After adding a run in the eighth, pinch-hitter Jake Hand belted a leadoff double. Brett Coker then swung at the first pitch he saw and knocked Hand in with an RBI single. The Mohawks added two more.
