Gloversville girls’ volleyball tops Amsterdam — High schools recap

Gloversville picked up a 25-19, 25-18, 25-13 win over Amsterdam in a Foothills Council girls’ volleyball match on Thursday. Allie Salvione had 18 assists, Marisa Dygon had nine kills, Jackie Rattray had 12 digs, Angelina Christman had 14 service points and Alyssa Cosselman had 10 service points for Gloversville.

Scotia-Glenville beat Johnstown 25-18, 25-20, 25-20, led by Tori Nardini’s seven kills and three blocks. Johnstown’s Daphne McGann had seven kills and six aces.

Galway was a 25-11, 25-14, 25-16 Western Athletic Conference winner against Canajoharie/Fort Plain as Amber Kolapkas provided 16 kills, Taylor Garrison added 10 kills, Kiera Allen and Courtney Smith each recorded six kills and Haleigh Hansen dished out 19 assists.

Schoharie triumphed 25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13 in a stirring comeback against Mayfield as Natalia Janacki had 10 kills for the Storm and Alyssa Cieszynski served up six aces among her 23 points. Mayfield’s Kamee Myers had seven kills, six blocks and seven digs, and Blake Hoose had 12 points, four aces, five kills and 11 digs.

Scotia Glenville used four second-half goals — three of them by Saif AbuZahra — to pull away for a 5-1 Foothills Council win over Amsterdam. Jackson Estes and Quinn Fasciglione also scored for Scotia-Glenville, and Matt Schraa had three assists. Amsterdam got a late goal from Aundray Fowler and 10 saves from Juan Rivas.

South Glens Falls was a 10-0 Foothills Council field hockey winner over Gloversville, led by two goals each from Katie Morris and Adriana Currier. Mia Benincasa, Maeve McCarty, Kaia Dake, Ava Reynolds, Hannah Revell and Grace Jackson also scored. Gloversville’s Evelyn Clo made 17 saves.

WEDNESDAY’S GAMES

Johnstown continued its perfect start in the Foothills Council with a 4-0 win over Gloversville behind goals from Danny Brown, Kayden Buyce, Maddox Pedrick and Mason Gray. Brown, Elijah Wager and Braeden Fennessey provided assists, and Travis Tallon recorded the shutout with four saves. Gloversville’s Connor Kahn stopped 13 shots.

Schoharie played on its new turf field for the first time, and made it a successful debut by blanking OESJ 3-0 in a Western Athletic Conference match.

Maxwell Kenny scored two goals for the Storm, Nolan Kenny scored one, Cameron Esposito had two assists and goalie Nick Hyatt made nine saves.

Middleburgh defeated Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons 1-0 on Austin Johns’ goal with 23:48 left in the game. Ben Croote made six saves for the Knights, and Andrew Baaki stopped nine shots for the ND-BG.

Galway rolled past Canajoharie/Fort Plain 6-1, as Marcos Del Rio Fernandez Aller scored four goals for the Eagles, and Colin Anderson scored two.

Janson Proulx had a goal and an assist, and Logan Kapusta also scored as Duanesburg/Berne-Knox-Westerlo blanked Northville 2-0. Jansen Proulx had a goal and an assist, Logan Kapusta scored a goal and Andrew Zink made nine saves for D/BKW.

Ella Drake and Lily Dempsey each scored a goal as Scotia-Glenville got past Amsterdam 2-1 in a Foothills Council girls’ soccer game on Wednesday. Abby Snyder assisted on both goals.

Aubrey Fisher scored in the second half on an assist from Anja Gatto to lift Broadalbin-Perth into a 1-1 tie with Schuylerville.

Schuylerville had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half on Anna Armstrong’s goal assisted by Victoria Piteri.

Taylor Barraclough made 11 saves for Schuylerville, and Mairead Marsden made 13 for the Patriots.

Emily Macauley and Ava Roca each scored three goals as Queensbury defeated Gloversville 11-0.

Fonda-Fultonville shut out Middleburgh 4-0 in the Western AThletic Conference, as Kami Myles had two goals and one assist. Keira Crahan and Rhyan Lewis also scored for Fonda, and Sam Sandel and Lauren Marotta each had one assist.

After a scoreless first half, Tahirah Lettow and Lily Arduini scored goals in the second half to give Mekeel Christian Academy a 2-0 victory over OESJ. Arduini assisted on Lettow’s goal, and Taylor Hayes assisted on Arduini’s.

Grace Marshall made 16 saves for Mekeel, and Jade Bonneau made four saves for OESJ.

Mayfield defeated Duanesburg 4-2, as Ava VanNostrand had two goals and an assist for Mayfield, Abigail Chest had a goal and an assist, Cloey Dopp scored a goal and Madison Case had one assist. Allison O’Hanlon and Marisa James scored for Duanesburg.

Northville shut out Berne-Knox-Westerlo 2-0 on two goals in the second half from Lily Kippel. Adrianna Vanallen had one assist for Northville, and Lillian Chamberlain made two saves.

In a non-league game, Cherry Valley/Springfield scored four straight goals after trailing 1-0 and defeated Canajoharie/Fort Plain 4-1.

Mia Dubbin had two goals and an assist for CV/S, and Maddie Hayes had the C/FP goal on an assist from Soren Veit-Scott.

TUESDAY’S GAMES

In Western Athletic Conference girls’ volleyball, Canajoharie/Fort Plain topped Mayfield, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25, 25-23. Mayfield was led by Paige Meher’s 13 points, two aces, two kills, 12 assists and five digs. Blake Hoose had 21 points, seven kills and 15 digs.

Broadalbin-Perth swept Hudson Falls, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20 in the Foothills Council. Ava Therrien led the Patriots with nine kills, and Jocelynn Gruet added four blocks. Laurel Mitchell had 22 assists, while Haley Tomlinson and Camille Calderone provided seven and six kills, respectively. Lily Bump’s 10 points led Hudson Falls, with Rylan Walker adding seven digs.
